SUBJECT!

Today Erin, Noah and I scouted out Roosevelt Island as a possible place to live next year.

It was really eerie. It's full of old hospitals and old people. All the architecture is 1960's style (which I really like), including the new buildings being put up. I don't want to go into real detail because I don't want to detract from the pictures I'm about to post. Here are two highlights:

An old laboratory with a huge triple-bard-wired fence surrounding it and a guard post.

Near the big main hospital there were posts with letters that patients had made. Here are pictures I took of them (enhanced so you can actually read them):



I'm pretty much speechless. Except for what I've already said. These two things are incredible.

there's this bum here who is always playing game boy advance using the city power outlets on the street. i assume he stole or found a whole backpack of stuff, because he also had a strategy guide for this pokemon game. but what's funny is he doesn't just read the strategy guide: he copies it onto another piece of paper first! i assume he's only willing to read his own writing, so he just copies things as "symbols" he'll later interpret into letters. this is how i imagine he's writing.

Crazy people don't realize that big/uncommon/fancy words only make them sound crazier and not smarter/more rational.

sci fi

From what you and Erin have said about Roosevelt Island, I keep getting the feeling that you are at the beginning of a really bad SCI-FI movie. Watch out for the shrews. These land-developers that lure you to abandoned islands with ruins of 'hospitals' never mention then man-eating shrews.
